Thank you for showing interest in supporting the music at the Calgary Unitarians Church!
We are so glad to have you joining us for the 2026-2027 season. Whether you are completely new to this congregation, or have been singing in our choirs for years, we hope that we can find a place for you to have fun with music!
You will find some requests for information below. This is for Matthew Barnett, our Music Director, to know how to refer to you and how to reach you. It is also for Jason Smith, our Website Wizard to add you to mailing lists and ensure proper Breeze access for members.
We will not share your info with anyone without your permission.
Most communication is done via email, so to stay as up to date as possible stay tuned to your inbox. There tends to be one Choir email a week concerning upcoming rehearsals, or two in a week if there is a performance or something similar.
Now for the fun part, making your selections!
UUPhonia is our core choir, welcoming to all ages, all skill levels, and all voice types. UUPhonia performs the occasional Sunday Service, but most of our time is spent in preparation for the annual Great Winter Singalong and then the Cabaret.
NousEnsemble is a treble choir, highlighting the sopranos and altos of the congregation. They will be performing in ceremonial services, such as the Water Communion and the Eldering Ceremony, they will also perform in the annual concerts. NousEnsemble is a semi-auditioned choir, the only prerequisite is a familiarity with sheet music.
Songleaders will be a group that can support the music of our services on non-choir days. Selecting this option will not commit you to anything, but add you to a contact list. Those on the Songleaders list will recieve periodic emails about the music in upcoming services and hopefully be inspired to step forward to help lead the congregation in song.
We've snuck the volunteering option here for those who want to get involved but aren't quite ready to sing. This is totally ok, we'll take your contact info and reach out when we do various calls for volunteers. The annual concerts are almost entirely volunteer run, so there are plenty of roles to fill!
Below is an optional box to elaborate on your interest! Here, you can describe your past history with choirs, perhaps anxieties you are feeling about joining, or something we should know about before we begin.
If you have selected the option of volunteering, you could describe your skillset, how you would like to contribute, or your history of volunteer work. This way we can try to give you tasks that will be interesting for you!
